What Type of Blind do you want? – Things to condsider

What Type of Window Covering: Decide what type of window shades you want.
Consider: What look do you want? How much light or privacy do you need? What is your budget? What about insulation qualities? What is the size of window that the blind will cover? Where do you want the control cords? Do you want an automated solution? Will they open from top to bottom or bottom to top, right to left or left to right? Do you get morning or afternoon sun? Check the links to the left for a summary of the qualities of the different types of product.

Recess or Frame Mount: Decide where the shades/blinds will be hung on the window – step back from your window and decide if you want to mount the window treatment inside the window recess, or outside on the wall or on the window frame.

An inside mount provides a cleaner more streamlined look, however, an outside mount gives a look that’s more like curtains and can make a window appear larger or hide an unattractive window. For an inside mount, the window opening must have enough unobstructed depth to allow mounting. For blinds with a wide head rail (eg 50mm venetians or Silhouette®) an inside mount may not be possible.

When measuring for an inside mount, be sure to check the depth of your window frame.

How to Measure Your Window for Blinds or Shades

Step 1 – Measurement: Use a steel tape measure to measure your window.

* For a recess / reveal fit shade, measure inside the frame from left to right then from top to bottom. Measure accurately – we will make allowances for fit according to the type of blind you select. Note the depth of the window frame so we can make sure it will accommodate the type of shade you want.

* For a frame mounted / face fit shade, measure from left to right at the top and bottom of the window then from the top of the window frame to the point you want the blind to drop to, (if the frame is not square we can take that into account but we need to know about it).
